Managers disputed a woman's claim she was stuck in a British supermarket elevator while waiting for a trained technician to arrive and press a button. Janice Woodward says she and her 2-year-old granddaughter were trapped in the elevator for well over an hour because store employees said they weren't authorized to push the button that would have freed them. Woodward says when the technician got there "he just touched the control button and the [elevator] moved." She says workers told her they were prohibited by safety regulations from pushing the button that would have released the stalled elevator car.

Four-year-olds can attend preschool. They’re old enough to ride a tricycle. But they’re not old enough to rent an apartment. A five-year-old girl was left in tears after police visited her home -- to collect her overdue library books. Hailey Benoit was left scared and believing she would be arrested after being questioned about two books which were due at the Charlton Public Library in Massachusetts several months before. The drama began when a local police sergeant knocked on the door to chase down the errant books. It was part of a blitz on $4,000 worth of unpaid fines. Mom said they have never received any warnings the misplaced books were wanted back. And even the sergeant admitted he felt uneasy with his mission. Regardless of whether the action was too heavy-handed, Massachusetts state law does state that the non-return of library books is a crime.
